If you have been to The Warren Alpert Medical School building lately, you’ll notice the neighborhood looks quite different. Construction enabling work is underway across the street for the William A. and Ami Kuan Danoff Life Sciences Laboratories, a cutting-edge facility poised to redefine life sciences research at Brown.

The Danoff Laboratories will be a seven-story, 300,000-square-foot hub designed to foster collaboration across diverse scientific fields. With state-of-the-art laboratory spaces bathed in natural light, a public education lab, and vibrant gathering areas, this facility will serve as a beacon of scientific advancement and community engagement.

This project aligns with Brown’s vision for a biomedical ecosystem where innovations move seamlessly from research and discovery to solutions that have a real-life impact for patients and communities. As envisioned, the building will house four major research programs—cancer, brain science, immunity and infectious disease, and aging—with cross-cutting areas such as RNA technology, biomedical engineering, and artificial intelligence embedded throughout its research floors. A physical bridge will connect the building to Brown’s Laboratories for Molecular Medicine at 70 Ship St., which will support research and collaboration continuity.

We are incredibly grateful to the Danoffs for their support and their commitment to having a significant and positive impact on human health. Pending progress in fundraising and full construction authorization by the Brown Corporation, the University is targeting a 2027 completion date for the building.
