At Brown’s Center on the Biology of Aging, researchers are driving a broader effort to understand how people can live longer, healthier lives by focusing on extending the human healthspan—the years generally free from serious chronic disease—as they develop therapeutics, launch industry ventures, and advance early-phase clinical trials for age-related diseases.
Led by John Sedivy, PhD, associate dean and director of the center and the Hermon C. Bumpus Professor of Biology, Brown has partnered with RoC Skincare through its new Empowered Aging initiative. This marks a shift beyond traditional anti-aging narratives to embrace a more holistic view of healthy aging—one that values both physical and emotional well-being.
The company also established the RoC Skincare Longevity Research Fund at Brown, which will build on the center’s hands-on, community-driven mission and RoC’s legacy of empowering people with clinically proven skincare. A multidisciplinary Longevity Council will guide the initiative, with findings shared broadly to advance understanding and prevention of age-related diseases. Together, they will drive innovation into the biological mechanisms of aging, enhancing both skin health and overall healthspan.
“Understanding how the human body ages is essential to transforming how we approach age-related diseases, shifting from mitigation to prevention,” says Sedivy.
