As the countdown to noon approached on March 20, anticipation buzzed through The Warren Alpert Medical School, giving way to applause and the clinking of champagne glasses as the members of the MD Class of 2026 tore open their red envelopes to reveal where they had matched for residency training. Students were quick to find the arms of loved ones, celebrating this moment with those who had supported them every step of the way.
In honor of Match Day, the Brown Medical Annual Fund hosted a giving day, inviting members of the Brown medical community to participate in a challenge where all gifts to the BMAF were matched dollar-for-dollar up to $75,000. The effort proved to be a huge success, breaking a BMAF giving day record with more than $240,000 raised from more than 260 donors.
“ I sincerely thank the Brown Medical Annual Fund—not just for supporting my education, but for shaping the kind of physician I’m becoming. ”
As the members of the MD Class of 2026 take the next step in their careers, the impact of the Brown Medical Annual Fund is evident in every match. The generosity of donors supports every student, every day, ensuring that the next generation of physician leaders is prepared to serve and create a healthier world for all.
One such student is Sonja Kapadia ScM’26 MD’26, who reflected on the training that led her to a successful match. “I sincerely thank the Brown Medical Annual Fund—not just for supporting my education, but for shaping the kind of physician I’m becoming,” Kapadia says. She highlighted the Doctoring Program, a BMAF-supported cornerstone of the curriculum, as a defining component of her training. “Because of experiences like these,” she says, “I feel truly prepared for what comes next.”
