Jovian Yu ’12 MD’16

Age: 26
Hometown: East Greenwich, RI
Undergrad school and majors: Brown University (PLME), Statistics and Computer Science
Specialty: Internal Medicine
Residency: Yale-New Haven Hospital / Yale School of Medicine

How did you choose your specialty?
I liked many parts of all of my clerkships, but I ended [my third]year on my medicine clerkship. It was the one time during the year when I really enjoyed all parts of the day, and I could see myself going into a career in internal medicine. Beyond that, I haven’t decided if I want to subspecialize or what field I might want to pursue in the future.

How has your education prepared you for the Match?
I’ve had many amazing mentors who’ve seen me through every step. … The education that I have received as a medical student has been integral to my growth because of the teachers and role models that I have encountered during my studies. And, of course, my friends and loved ones have been there every step of the way, and their support has kept me grounded through my studies.

What’s next?
My wedding and honeymoon in June [with Joy Liu ’11 MD’15, an internal medicine resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School]! Fourth year has been filled with wedding planning and the Match, in addition to my final rotations as a medical student. [I’m] looking forward to celebrating and going on one last vacation before starting residency.
