Dzau, MD, president of the National Academy of Medicine, delivered the 2022 Paul Levinger Lecture last Friday that broke down the case for social, economic and scientific preparedness for extending a healthy lifespan."I do think that this is a really important issue -- a defining issue of our time," Dzau said.   Over the last few years, the world has been reminded how important it is to mark tradition. This fact was made evident on Saturday when first-year medical students lined up in front of friends and family to receive their white coats -- all of which were donated by those who have worn it before them: members of the Brown Medical Alumni Association. Though this garment is woven from ordinary threads, it carries a special weight and sets the wearer apart from the crowd."You are participating in something that is larger than yourself, said fourth-year student speaker John Johnson MD'23. "The white coat connects you to a history that transcends your personal experience and that history is, admittedly, complicated."Johnson told the students to take great pride and responsibility in knowing that though history may have determined what the white coat means up to this point, the future of it rests on their shoulders.This year's faculty speaker, Assistant Professor of Surgery Liza M.
