Why did you choose Alpert Medical School?
It was evident during my visit [on interview day]that the administration encouraged students to pursue their passions both within and outside of medicine. Given my architecture background, I have always been interested in the relationship between design and health, and leveraging design thinking to tackle the complex challenges facing the world of medicine. To me, Brown was an ideal place for such an endeavor—particularly with its close relationship to RISD—and I feel fortunate to have received tremendous support in pursuing this goal over the last four years.
What advice would you give to yourself on your first day of medical school?
Gain exposure to as many medical specialties as possible from day one, whether through shadowing, research, or longitudinal exposure. You may be surprised by what fields you find interesting, and the only way to appreciate that is to see how the field is practiced on a daily basis. There are so many medical fields out there, and unfortunately there is not enough time during the clinical years to gain full exposure.
