Shaped like an elbow, the street in Providence’s Jewelry District has retained its distinctive shape for at least 200 years. The earliest depiction of the street, and its namesake shape, dates from an 1823 city map. Today, even its sign is bent.

This image is from Hoffman’s new book, Providence: Uncovered, a collection of postcards of some of Providence’s most iconic street names written with Hilary Bergen AM’23.
