Brown, Lifespan, and Care New England sign agreement to align research operations.

A new agreement between Brown, Lifespan, and Care New England will streamline the institutions’ health and medical research collaborations.

Under the terms of the aligned research collaboration agreement, signed in November, the health systems will align their research operations with Brown’s Division of Biology and Medicine and School of Public Health in a unified enterprise.

The agreement will help Brown, Lifespan, and Care New England compete for larger grants by combining strengths in research infrastructure, core facilities, and specialized equipment. It will also provide new opportunities for local clinical trials.

“Both Lifespan and Care New England have impactful research portfolios with great talent,” Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences Mukesh K. Jain, MD, says. “Bringing them together with Brown will allow us all to expand on our existing assets in ways that benefit patients in our community and beyond. The vision being advanced in this agreement integrates research from laboratory to clinical trials to outcomes at the population level across key biomedical domains.”

A Joint Executive Council with representation from all three institutions will oversee the work to unify research operations.
